What is Recalculating?

Navigating manhood, masculinity, fatherhood and identity crisis. Men and fathers who feel alone and boxed in by your gender role: let’s talk. In my first year as a parent caring for my son while my partner became the main breadwinner, I felt isolated, lonely and weird. I had no male role models and no community with whom I could share my experiences. So now I’m creating the newsletter I would have liked to read. Join me!

Who am I?

My name is Ignacio Pereyra but almost everyone calls me Nacho. Or Irene's partner. Or Lorenzo's father. I was born in Buenos Aires and at the moment I am in Greece. I am a journalist. For ten years, I worked as a correspondent in Buenos Aires for the German news agency DPA. For 14 years, I was the Buenos Aires correspondent for Río Negro newspaper, the largest in Patagonia. My work has been published in CityLab, USA Today, InfoMigrants, El País, Rolling Stone, La Nación Magazine, Infobae. I have three books on stand-by. In 2021, I started building Recalculating as an ICFJ Fellow.

My goal?

I am a man raised in a sexist society trying to learn and change patterns. I want to ask questions and show the learning curve (not to be a ‘font of wisdom’!). I have more questions and doubts than definitive answers. My idea is to create a community that helps us understand masculinity and improve.
