As a guy who’s adamant about getting my annual checkup, two annual visits to the dentist, and (at least when I have insurance) my eye’s checked yearly, I don’t totally get this, but I have heard that the average woman lives 10-years longer than the average man simply because men take longer to get themselves checked out and then don’t follow medical protocols when prescribed.

Thanks for pushing the conversation!

Great job, Joe! Prioritizing men's health is essential, and your dedication to regular checkups sets a positive example. Emphasizing that, on average, women tend to outlive men, we should address various factors, including men's tendencies to delay checkups and disregard prescribed medical advice (supported by data). The goal is to encourage everyone to take their health seriously and address healthcare behavior gaps.

This disparity isn't solely due to men's delay in check-ups or non-adherence to medical protocols, though reduced healthcare interaction plays a role. We must also consider preventable causes, like risk-taking behaviors leading to impulsive decisions and substance abuse, which result in higher mortality rates. It's equally important to focus on mental health, as it contributes to this gender-based health disparity.

Do societal expectations and traditional notions of masculinity affect men's healthcare choices? Let's explore how these factors influence men's health behaviors.

Your engagement in this critical conversation is highly appreciated. Thank you!
